| Harry Caray Statue Vandalized | |
Updated: Monday, 07 Feb 2011, 6:48 AM CST Chicago – A statue of famed Chicago Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray was defaced Sunday in yet another bizarre incident surrounding the Wrigleyville memorial. Chicago Cubs spokesman Peter Chase said staff learned of the graffiti Sunday afternoon and most of it was already removed by 8 p.m. Chicago Police could not provide additional details. “We are presently in a fact-finding stage when it comes to any other details,†Chase said via email. The statue has been vandalized in the past. A dead goat was found hanging from the statue prior to the 2009 home opener. A similar incident occurred in 2007, in what many perceived as a bizarre attempt to lift the notorious Billy Goat curse. The statue was originally at North Sheffield Avenue and West Addison Street, but was moved a block north in September 2010 to North Sheffield and West Waveland avenues to make room for a statue of Hall of Fame Cub Billy Williams. It was damaged in November when a worker ran an equipment vehicle into the monument while converting the field for a college football game. The accident left a sizable crack in the granite base.  Thanks for visiting our blog =). Posted in cubs-news | Comments Off
